Welcome to Melrose Kennels and our new website, finally!

My wife, Sharon and I, Russ Guevel, own and operate Melrose Kennels as Gordon Setter breeders and an all-breed training facility.

We have been involved with Gordons for over 30 years with an intense breeding program for the last 15 years – our efforts have paid off and we are now producing the most outstanding field Gordons available.

I grew up around bird dogs my whole life and enjoyed bird hunting and duck hunting with my father.

I was introduced to Gordons after not having much luck with Irish Setters.

What started out as just a companion gun dog and family pet soon developed into serious bird hunting and getting involved with field trails in AKC and NSTRA.

The hook was set! All I wanted was to breed Gordons that could win and dogs I could show off to my friends. We all got competitive and had bragging right to be heard. Before long we were set with horses, camper and spending the weekends running from trial to trial.

We decided to move to Missouri in 1993. We needed room to expand our facility and more room for more dogs. My wife became involved in the paper work and computer end of the business.

Now we have 6000 sq. ft. of kennels with 20 acre training ground right out the back door. The 400 acre family farm is located 20 miles away which is used for training, planned hunts and guided hunts for guests.
